I love being a student.

I’m not currently a student. I had to stop a couple years ago because the money just got super tight. Which is a dang shame, because I was pretty close to graduating with an honours degree in English.

I’m good at English, it turns out. But I digress. The reason I bring it up is because I love being a student. I love studying, I love being tested, I love engaging with other students. But, perhaps most importantly, I love researching.

This is a dangerous love for a writer. The inclination is always to research rather than to write, and that’s not what a writer does. A writer, one must assume, writes.

But these days in order to maintain my pace of story writing (about 10K words a week), I have to sneak in my studying when I can. Things like… speed of light calculations, or mass-ratios, or, in this case, the fictional thousand-year history of a sphere of stars surrounding Earth.

You know. As you do.

Hope everyone out there is staying safe and healthy!
