I know I’ve written before about how much I love the situation when I get “in the flow” while I’m writing. I think it’s common among creatives, that inclination to do work such that time just sort of disappears and work just kind of gets finished, almost magically.
The moments where it doesn’t feel like “work.” Where it feels like art.
Of course, you can’t really control those moments, and so I cheat. I create whenever and wherever I can. I spend a large part of my waking life writing (or thinking about writing, or preparing for writing). That makes it a bit more likely that this will be the time that lightning strikes, the moments where I get a tonne of work done and everything feels… if not “easy,” then at least easier.
These last few days have been like that for me. While many people were wrapped up in the World Cup over the weekend, I was writing, recording, and editing a bunch of content for my podcast. And when I finished all that, I churned out a few thousand words on the novel.
It’s been a good couple days. Now if I could just get a hold of my editor and cover artist…
Hope everyone out there is staying safe and healthy!
